Drive to Dhunche:

It’s time to start the Langtang Valley trek, and we begin by leaving Kathmandu behind and driving to Dhunche. Previously, Syabrubeshi was the main starting point of trekking. But now, due to the deadly Bhotekoshi flood, the only possible route is from Dhunche. The road construction in Betrawati is ongoing and further we hope that the road construction extends and makes travelling easier and convenient.

Frequently asked

How difficult is the Langtang Valley trek?+
The Langtang Valley trek has a difficulty category of easy to moderate. Depending on physical fitness, visitors can choose either the hike to Kyanjin RI or Tserko Ri. Besides the hike, the entire trek has no strenuous parts and can be done by young and old. We see many families with children enjoying this trek and the bonding experience it offers. If you want to be sure to fully enjoy this trek, we do advise doing some stamina training before departing for Nepal, but it is not required.
How do you get from Kathmandu to Langtang?+
You can travel from Kathmandu to Langtang by road or charter a helicopter. A helicopter is the fastest option, while traveling by road is more economical. Due to the Bhote Koshi flood affecting the usual route, the Dhunche route is currently the best alternative for reaching the Langtang region by road.
Is there a risk of getting AMS during the Langtang Valley trek?+
Yes, there is a risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) during the Langtang Valley trek, especially as you reach higher elevations such as Kyanjin Gompa and Tserko Ri. Our itinerary includes an acclimatization day at Kyanjin Gompa to help your body adjust to the altitude. During the Tserko Ri hike, we recommend taking your time, staying well hydrated, and not spending too long at the summit. If you experience symptoms such as headache, dizziness, unusual fatigue, nausea, or difficulty sleeping, inform your guide immediately. Your guide will assess the situation and, if necessary, arrange a descent to a lower elevation.
Can I make the Langtang Valley trek longer?+
Yes, with Nobel Holidays you can make the Langtang Valley trek longer and head further to the famous and holy Gosaikunda Lake, or add the Tamang Heritage Trail as well. All can be combined with the Langtang Valley trek.
Do I need to hike up to Tserko Ri?+
In order to get the best experience and views during the Langtang Valley trek, we plan to hike up to Tserko Ri. For some, this day hike can be too strenuous and is not required. You can also hike up to Langshisha Peak, Kyanjin Ri or choose to stay in the village for some exploration and sightseeing.
What type of people reside in the Langtang Valley?+
The Langtang Valley has a majority of Tamang people living here. These friendly people are said to have emigrated from Tibet and still practice parts of Tibetan culture. Mostly farmers, these ethnic people are well known for their warm hospitality and guiding trekkers through the region. During the trek, you’ll come across many Mani walls and small stupas built by these people.
How are the teahouses during the Langtang Valley trek?+
After the 2015 earthquake, the entire valley got an uplift, and most guesthouses have been modernized to accommodate more people in comfort. You’ll find hot water and a Wi-Fi connection at most guesthouses, and the beds are comfortable and soft. Toilets are public, which is what you can expect in the Himalayan region. The food is excellent but can be spicy; we do advise you to refrain from ordering any meat items or to check first with your guide before ordering.
